Tribute to Ansel Adams
April 27th, 2007 by Benji Mast
I just sat down at the dinner table just as the golden light of evening was starting when I saw a Dogwood tree out the window. The light hitting it was perfect and combined with the darkness of the forest behind I knew I couldn’t pass it up. Without explaination I stood up from the table ran out and backed the truck up to the tree to get high enough for close-ups.
Ansel Adams is/was widely considered to be the greatest photographer to walk the planet. He died in the mid-eighties if I remember correctly but never used color film. His, “Dogwood Blossoms” is one of my all-time favorite pictures ever. So when I saw this in black-and-white I couldn’t help but think of his shot. I even burned (darkened) the edges like he did.

Absolutely stunning.
I’ve always loved Ansel’s B&W photographs. I have an calendar over my desk featuring his beautiful images. Monochrome has a timeless beauty because you can’t tell if the photo was taken in 1907 or 2007
Great photography! Keep it up.
Amazing! I am a great lover of black & white! And of Adams’ picures. Great job on capturing a timeless picture!
Hey good work. I’m definately a fan of Ansel Adams. Pretty sure I never get real close to capturing what he did.
I haven’t come close to his work either, of course, and for the record, I that’s not what I was trying to insinuate. It simply reminded me of his shot. Not sure if this clarification is necessary, but, for the record…
We always enjoy Sam and Becca when they visit. Alvin is an interesting fellow too. I hadn’t really known him before so it was neat to hear all his travel stories. BTW the dogwood pic is beautiful! Good work!
Post, you slacker.
