Me

Heidi did an excellent job of taking some portraits of me. However, Nic Miller took the first one in his studio in Berlin, OH. Thanks Nic for the evening in the studio.

very cool! curious to know what you used for that great lighting?
i like the third one.
By great lighting I’m assuming you are not talking about the studio picture. Not because the studio shot doesn’t have great light, because it does, but because there are more outdoor shots.
Light is more important than location when it comes to portrait work. Great outdoor light is all around on a sunny day. Open shade is the key to finding good out door light. This light is found on the edges of a shaded area, were the over head light is diffused and diminished, and there is a stronger, warm, directional light coming from outside the shaded area. A dark background is also nice, so don’t shoot back into a sunlit area, but try to frame the shot so the background is shaded. I was fortunate on #3 to get a hair light as well as a nice, soft, key/main light.
Natural lighting is awesome, yes. (and no, i wasn’t talking about the studio pic.) The main reason I asked was because some of the pictures (#2 especially) looked similar to ones I took while using foil to help reflect light while taking pictures in the shade.
Very nice. Kudos to Heidi! #2 of the outdoor shots is my favorite. I am a fan of rim-lighting. one thing I don’t really like about this is the way you have your head turned. It looks a little…soft. The last one you should have worn a black turtleneck, it would just look cool. =) I really really like the pose of the second to last. I like the way you have your head towards your ‘down’ shoulder. Am I missing my guess or is there a reflector being used on the left side of your face? The way that the beam on your right frames the picture is very nice. The only thing I really dislike is that long something growing out of your head. Great Job to both of you!
great pix! really like the 3rd and last ones. i’m kind of assuming you got into smbi now and these are portraits you got done for that? i know, i’m assuming alot! lol!
You should update again.
What a handsome young man….lol.
