Quittin’ Time

smallquittin'time

In my opinion, the sky is the most physically beautiful thing in all creation. It has been an awesome reflection of God’s beauty, power, beauty, hugeness, beauty, and glory to me so many times.

Sunsets are one of the most beautiful times to view the sky, and have been probably the most photographed subjects ever.

My personal favorite, though, is a clear, starry, sky. When the night was crisp and the stars were bright, I used to climb up on the roof at our VA house a just sit in awe of the far-reaching beauty of creation. Holding a conversation was very natural with His creation shouting His glory.

Take a moment to appreciate what He has given us. As an artist, its hard for me miss but we don’t have to be the only ones. Soak it up, He gave it to use to enjoy.

I hear you, Benji, the sky is remarkably beautiful. However, my opinion has been shaped by Mike Mason (Practicing the Presence of People) and his statement that because people are made in the likeness of God, we are closest to God Himself not when we gaze into the beauty of the night sky but rather when we are present with another person, even the lowest beggar living in the gutter.

I encourage you not to miss the crowning glory of creation. Soak up the presence of other people. He has given us each other.

Beautiful in what way? Physically or otherwise? Have I not cultivated the love of Christ enough to see that people are more beautiful than anything else, physically? Or is that impossible to seperate, in the true sense of beauty as the “little christ” should know it? I am exploring this question myself.
Of course, there is nothing more beautiful than a flowering young woman. What about Great Aunt Emma with her cute little mustache? Is true beauty completely beyond that?
Unless stated otherwise, I am refering to physical beauty. What is physical beauty?

Sorry for the incoherentness of this comment. I’m still trying to figure it all out myself.

Awesome Shot. I agree with you, Benji, the sky is one of the most beautiful things in the world. I’ll hardly photograph anything unless I can get at least a bit of pretty sky in it. Of course, Ryan had to through a big wet blanket over your beautiful sunset. (he probably has a point, but it sure doesn’t have much to do w/ photography)

    Nice Picture Benji,
If you have seen a picture taken from the moon you
probably remember that the “sky” is black.
I suppose God could have given us that color too,
but I’m so glad He gave us what He did.

  6. […] Remember that post I did a while ago? In it I declared the sky to be the most beautiful thing in creation. A reader also quite boldly disagreed with me, postulating that the human race was the crowning work of creation and was therefore the most beautiful thing in the physical world. […]
