This is an old write-up I did at the time and never got a chance to post. Read it in that context.
I was very pleased today.
We went to a mall to meet some great people, Luke and Amy Keupfer, at a coffee shop. We had an excellent time and I had a great time talking with Luke. He’s a great guy, so full of energy and vision after spending 10+ years in Thailand. He recommended some books to me that I’m looking forward to reading and dialoging with him about. He almost convinced me to go to Faith Builders instead of SMBI this winter. I’m still weebleing. Enough rambles.
Luke’s Family
Even though the above events were very pleasing, that’s not the reason I am writing to tell you that I was pleased today.
The reason is that Canon was doing a promotional thingie at the mall. No, I didn’t sign up for a sweepstakes and win a Mark III 1D-s with a 24-105 IS or anything like that. I did however get to try a Mark III and get blown away by 10 fps. Attatched this camera was 600 f/4 IS L. A huge white lens with a more huger price tag. In the same area they had the 300 f2.8 IS L.
I also got to use a Ts-E or tilt-shift lens, an incredible piece of glass, that is able to do all kind’s of impossible stuff. Like make the focus plane run diagonally instead of perpendicular to your camera/lens/shoulders, like normal lenses do. They also had 100 2.8 marco there, a very fun lens and made me wish for one.
Best of all, IMO was they had a set-up with a Mark III on a tripod tethered to an Apple Laptop and a softbox. They also had a sweet and pretty Thai model for my convienice. I had a lot of fun moving the light around changing strobe power, apertrue, light-to-model distance, light position, etc. It made me want to get some more light… and an Asian model, 100% kidding
