I just sat down at the dinner table just as the golden light of evening was starting when I saw a Dogwood tree out the window. The light hitting it was perfect and combined with the darkness of the forest behind I knew I couldn’t pass it up. Without explaination I stood up from the table ran out and backed the truck up to the tree to get high enough for close-ups.
Ansel Adams is/was widely considered to be the greatest photographer to walk the planet. He died in the mid-eighties if I remember correctly but never used color film. His, “Dogwood Blossoms” is one of my all-time favorite pictures ever. So when I saw this in black-and-white I couldn’t help but think of his shot. I even burned (darkened) the edges like he did.
